My life in Ruamkatanyu (Thailand)

I have volunteered for Ruamkatanyu (Thai NGO) for the last 9 years and am an official member. As far as I know I am the only foreigner in Thailand to be doing this kind of work! I really enjoy helping the various communities around Thailand and even Thai people are suprised to know that Ruamkatanyu does more than attend car accidents, picking up dead bodies and taking care of funerals for those without money or family! They build schools, supply educational materials, clothing to rural villages and hill tribes (even neighbouring countries such as Laos), Search and Rescue operations in floods, Tsunamis, fires and remote locations, food emergency supplies, free food for the poor at festivals, provide ambulance services for the poor and so much more!.... Ruamkatanyu are like a big family and have warmly welcomed me into their group and I feel very honoured and happy that I have the opportunity to work for them.

What I do

•Operate my own free ambulance service including vehicle purchase, medical and rescue equipment, maintenance and petrol. Weekly attending on average 30+ accidents in the central Bangkok area, some of which are foreigners.
•Assist in body care and collection(The police don't do this in Thailand!)of anyone but particularly foreigners and assist families in translations and body collection processes in their time of grieving. I helped take care of over 2000 bodies during the Tsunami aftermath for 2 weeks for which I received a medal from the Thai and New Zealand governments.
•Assist the police with translations, ID, and anything to do with foreigners.
•All areas of rescue work including fire, floods, rescue, and relief supplies for victims of natural disasters and/or poor areas of Thailand (including hill tribes)
